Have you kept your New Year’s resolution to exercise more? Well, here’s a little more incentive to keep you going, or get you started.
Love your smartphone? Me, too. Early in February, the UN Foundation announced its new partnership with Charity Miles, a free smartphone app that allows you to earn money for charity while exercising to improve your health. The user can choose to support one of 17 charities available in the app. A group of sponsors will then donate, to the selected charity, 25 cents for every mile you run or walk and 10 cents for every mile you bike.
These organizations collectively launched the first-ever #VDay10k to raise $10k for charity during the month February.
“We don’t want people to open their wallets, just tie up their sneakers,” said Charity Miles’ founder Gene Gurkoff. “Charity Miles is excited to partner with the UN Foundation and its campaigns to encourage even more people to take small steps to make a big impact.”
Through the UN Foundation’s #VDay10k campaign, your miles can be donated to some of my favorite non-profits—like Shot@Life, to provide lifesaving vaccines for children in need and Girl Up, which provides education for girls in developing countries.
